Water Based Moisturizers for Black Hair

By Dena On September 24, 2009 Under Bhp Q&A

Tynia  from Tallahassee, Fl asked:

I’m looking for a good water based moisturizer to use in my hair regimen. Could you please suggest some good ones?

When you are in the market for a good hair moisturizer, you want to check out the ingredients list first and foremost. If you want an authentic water based moisturizer, then the very first ingredient needs to be simply, H2O!  It’s moisture you really want, right? We know that the first ingredient in the product tells us what that product consist of most.

I have tried several on the market, and I will be the first one to tell you not all of them are created equal! Some were too light to combat dryness, while others where heavy enough to weigh my hair down significantly!  Another problem you may run into is that some water based moisturizers are greasy or sticky.

So what I found to be the best solution is to experiment with several in order to discover the best one for my hair’s needs.

My list will consists of  the top five that I have used with the first one being my favorite!

1. Olive Oil Incredibly Rich  Moisturizing Hair Lotion-Just the right consistency for my hair! Although it is rich as it claims, it does not weigh the hair down when used moderately.

2. ORS Carrot Oil-This works well for dry damaged hair that needs hydration quickly.

3. ORS Olive Oil- A little on the greasy side but still works well for moisture.

4. Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave in Cream-This is a bit on the light side, however, if your hair is not very thick, you will love this!

5. BB Hair Moisturizer Lotion with Castor Oil and Aloe-I’ve found that this formula works well for natural or texlaxed hair. My daughter’s hair loves it!

Keep in mind that these products are what have worked for me! I sure hope that you can find something in this list that works well for you, Tynia!

Sorry for the delayed response,NewHair! 1 and 4 are two different moisturizers….
I think maybe you are wondering about one and three. One is the lotion in a bottle and the three the ORS Olive Oil is in a jar, they are two different formulas. One is a very thick and rich formula, and the one in the jar is much lighter and somewhat on the greasy side. HTH!
