Teacher Hair Styles: Simplicity and Sophistication

What hair style comes to mind when you think of a teacher? Most people will probably say buns or updos. The mindset derives from some traditional TV roles of teachers. You may recall shows such as Little House on the Prairie with the very sweet and coy Miss Beadle complete with the bonnet and bunned hair.

Good-bye, Miss Beadle.

As a teacher, it doesn’t surprise me when people are taken aback when a teacher doesn’t quite fit into the perfect little box that society has created for us. I’ve had the pleasure to work with teachers of all walks of life, styles, and personalities. Our current times have helped some in dismissing the traditional image of teachers. Yet, we have to remain cognitive that teachers are role models, and we mustn’t forget that each and every thing we do, say, and wear, down to our hairstyles is studied by our dear students.
I’d like to offer a balance of modern trends and social grace for teachers that are having difficulty deciding which hair styles to choose.

Consider convenience first. Go for the styles that will allow you to jump up, style, and go after an intense night of grading papers and putting in calls to parents. We as teachers must be flexible first and foremost, so why shouldn’t our hair style be the same?
There are so many versatile ways to wear a bob! And who can argue that a teacher’s image is graceful, yet stylish with this timeless style?

You can wear with or without bangs! Switch it up for versatility.

Go for styles that won’t flop after a day on the playground. Why not consider a fancy ponytail, pony tuck, or spicy bun do?

A loose ponytail can hold up from morning work until dismissal and still look the part!

Be creative, yet refrain from styles that will distract your students. Don’t be a diversion to your students, as if there aren’t enough distractions for young minds as it is. Keep it sweet and simple, without compromising your sense of style and creativity.

A straw set is always fun and simple!

Who says teacher equals fuddy duddy? I beg to differ. You don’t have to settle for less in style because you’re an educator. Just do it in style, and show your students that teachers are a class act!
