How do I make my relaxed hair curly?

Stephanie M. from Fort Myers, FL asked:

I have relaxed hair, but I want the look of curly natural hair. Do you have any suggestions on how to get this look?

Of course, Stephanie, as  you know that as ladies with relaxed hair, we have somewhat given up our natural rights for curly hair. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t sport the curls that we dream of having again, without going natural. The truth of the matter is that when we decided to relax our tresses, we made it that much harder to achieve the natural curly look that God blessed us with to begin with. But the good news is that there are tons of products and styling tools on the market designed to aid us in our quest for some sassy curls!

So, if you are wanting a looser curly look, like crinkles, try two strand twists or braid outs. These styles give the look of a natural curl pattern.

If you desire the tighter curls, why not go for a straw set or curling rods? The curls created with these tools, can give the appeal of a natural look.

The most difficult task here is maintaining the curls. Since your hair has been chemically processed, it is not as easy to keep the curls in tact. You  must work that much harder to keep the curls in place. Keeping  your hair in a satin bonnet at night should allow for your curls to stay in place for longer.

Don’t give up your hopes for curly tresses. As  you see, the task is achieveable, but just takes a little time and effort.
