Is using pure shea butter on relaxed hair a good idea?

Cassie from Canton, OH asked:

My hair is relaxed, dry, and brittle. Is it a good idea to use unrefined shea butter on my hair?

First off, pure shea butter provides excellent benefits for treated or processed hair. Hair that is brittle or damaged can only benefit from the use of shea butter.  Applying shea butter to the hair and steam treating can wake up and invigorate dull hair!

Relaxers have a tendency to suck the life out of hair. Shea butter, however, does just the opposite. Treating hair with natural shea butter can  provide a myriad of benefits for your hair, to name a few:

  • Naturally softens the strands
  • Acts as a detangler
  • Acts as a moisturizer
  • Restores shine and luster
  • Fights against breakage

Check out some of your ingredient labels of your shampoos and conditioners, you will most likely see the ingredient in many of the products.

The best thing about shea butter is that it is safe enough to use on your hair everyday! So the answer to your question is yes, shea butter is a great idea for usage on your hair!
