If I keep my hair washed and deep conditioned every 2 -3 weeks and ends trimmes every 3 months can my hair still grow longer with braids and clip in extensions?

I get my hair relaxed every 3-4 month and keep a sew-in in my hair. My hair went from short and damage to healthy, thicker, and 2 inches away from the middle of my back, sometimes I wear a half sew-in ( 2 or 3 braids) for my hair to have a little relief. But moisturizing and and deep conditioners (especially from the Aphogee line) helps tremendously! And don't be lazy at night either wrap your hair and put in a set of rollers before you got to sleep (decrease the chance of breakage). natural or processed your hair still needs TLC to get to the state you want it to be!

I agree with you. I have been wearing a sew in weave for over 3 years now and its great. I get it taken out every 2 1/2 months and get a new one sewn in. My hair has grown from being at my ears to down to right above my shoulders. I have very dry hair that is prone to breakage, so this has been a great way for me to give it a break and let it grow.

I have to disagree..Relaxers have and can cause damage but generally that is because many women don't take proper care of their hair. With any type of style or chemical service maintance is the most importnat thing. It includes proper conditioning, balanced diet, part genetic (although not always the case), and using heating tools properly(applying heat protector and not using daily). Many women believe that going to the salon twice a month is all the need to do! I no many women who have gone natural and are still unable to achieve the length they want..The key to growing health and long hair is MAINTANCE!

I agree with DEB. I say stay clear of the "creamy crack" - seriously. Relaxers are a no go. My hair is pas my shoulders, almost to the middle of my back. And, I get sew ins 3 times a year. My schedule is like this:
January - March: Sew In
April: My hair is out (washed, conditioned and my ends clipped)
May-July: Sew In
August: My hair is out (washed, conditioned and my ends clipped)
September-November: Sew In
December" My hair (washed, conditioned and my ends clipped)

Why do I point this out well because 4 years ago I cut ALL my hair off and rid myself of the creamy crack. And, once I started taking care of my hair - CHEMICAL FREE - it started growing like wild flower.

Weaves are good if they are done RIGHT and taken care of. Even when I get a FULL WEAVE (meaning none of my hair out) I dont allow my stylist to sew on the braids closest to my edges. I tell her to start at the next braid to avoid pulling at my scalp. I also pay attention while she is braiding. If it is too tight I tell her to start that braid over. And when she sews the net and the hair I do the same. This is A SERIOUS MATTER (all puns intended) - it is YOUR hair and YOUR money so demand great service...a good weave can help your hair to grow but it is up to you to ensure this.

Steer clear of weaves???!!!! Nope! I have had a sew-in for over a year and a half. I get it redone every 2 months. I have not manipulated my natural hair. Needless to say, I have a full head of natural hair. I keep my natural hair braided. I would say "steer clear of the GLUE used in bonded and quick weaves". But this was a tool for me to grow out my natural hair. Heck, I'd say steer clear of relaxers. That's a chemical that should not come near black hair.

For years women of color have had problems with their hair. The hair has been over processed, colored too much, and over heated. The hair has also had things done to it that should be against the law like putting glue in it. Some words like glue and hair should not even be used in the same sentence. Sadly, the hair cannot take all of this abuse. Yet, we wonder why the hair breaks or does not grow. I have the anwers to the questions you have been asking. I am the "Hair Whisperer".

Anyone can grow hair. Although genetics does play a part in how fast and/or how long the hair will grow, it will still grow. The secret is knowing what to do, how often to do it, and what products to use. As long as the hair follicles are not damaged, anyone can grow hair.

These are all wonderful tips on how to maintain healthy hair. I am a Stylist and I also tell my clients to stay away from heat styling products or use them only once or twice a week, apply leave in conditioner and hair oil in the hair daily as well as always sleeping with a satin or silk scarf or pillow case at night to retain the moisture of the hair and minimize breakage.
