Sedu Clipless Curling/Solia Flat Iron

Here is my review of the Sedu Clipless Curling iron and the Solia Flat Iron I ordered from Folica.com. They were doing a special where you get a free flat iron if you spent 100 dollars. I brought the Sedu Clipless Curling Iron bundle and it came out to 98 bucks so random thing for a dollar. I am so pleased with my purchase. I give both these products 10/10. The only thing I don’t like is the glove, somehow I still manage to burn my hand because its a kind of mesh type material.

The Edgestick Review

The Edgestick is a hair styling tool that is meant to maintain the edges of your hair (the region around the hairline) in its straightened state. Seeing as though I do not currently use heat on my hair, I tested the tool on my niece’s hair.

The results were short and simple, it worked! The tool reminds me of a pressing comb, however it is ceramic and electronic. The comb on the Edgestick is made like a fine tooth comb, however, it is designed in a way that prevents burns when used correctly. The Edgestick wasn’t too hot, as it has multiple settings in order for you to be able to control the temperature of it. My teenage niece appreciated the styling tool; she’ll be able to use it carefully as needed in between her relaxers.

Has anyone else every tried the Edgestick? What are your thoughts about it?

One and Only Argon Oil Treatment Review

Wow! When they say The One and Only Argon Oil, it is certainly for good reason, because I’ve never tried anything quite like it! I had read the rave reviews about this oil and my curiosity wouldn’t allow me not to run to Sally’s and grab a bottle. The Argon Oil is a “conditioning product derived from Moroccan Argan Tree”. This rare oil makes claims to nourish and “repair and regenerate damaged hair”. As far as I am concerned this product had me at the first application to my daughter’s texturized hair. Surprisingly, The scent is just divine. As a sealant, this oil really holds true to its claims of eliminating frizz and conditioning damaged cuticles. It definitely passed the test on my daughter’s tresses, leaving her hair moisturized, shiny, and extremely manageable.

As far as my relaxed hair, I was equally pleased with the results of the Argon Oil. I applied some to my wet hair after deep conditioning and then rollerset my hair. The results were shiny and smooth frizz free curls. According to the claims, this oil even reduces drying time. What more can a girl ask for in an oil?

It goes without saying that I am pleased in more ways than one with the One and Only Argon Oil. The only couple of drawbacks that I can add are that the packaging is rather cheap and price.When I went to tighten the bottle cap, it broke– a very delicate cap, so careful!! And the price is not what most would consider economical. However, in my humble opinion, nine bucks for such a great product is a small price to pay!!

Phat Head Super Moisturizing Conditioner Review

The Lemony-custard scent of this product drew me in the minute I lifted the cap on it; the results I experienced after trying the conditioner were even better. Brendita’s Body Works Phat Head Super Moisturizing Conditioner proved to do wonders for my natural coils. Brendita’s Body Works has formulated the conditioner with an overwhelming majority of natural ingredients; this is ideal for me because I tend to lean more toward natural products nowadays.

Phat Head Super Moisturizing Conditioner works best for me when I use heat, as it is recommended. Though this conditioner is not very heavy (it is more lightweight in formula), I use it for deep conditioning and for conditioner washes. During my deep treatments, I tend to add EVCO to get even better results. The upshot is, we have the leverage to use this conditioner in multiple ways.

The manufacturer claims that the product “Seals in moisture and protects hair without silicones or harsh chemicals. These ingredients will give your hair softness and moisture without the heaviness or greasiness that you may find in other commercial products.” Overall, I would have to confirm the statement. It is moisturizing (as the name says), has multiple uses (deep conditioner, cowash, leave-in), contains no -cone laden chemicals (which is great b/c I have a no silicone/-cone regimen), and it has a pleasant scent. I tend to use a large amount to saturate my hair, but it all depends on the amount of hair you have and what you are comfortable with using; that may be the only downfall for me. The 16oz bottle that I own is $17 (8oz bottle is $10), but I am not complaining much; I still have the initial bottle that I bought in June and I wash my hair weekly (maybe I don’t use as much as I think I do, lol).

Ingredients: Organic Aloe Juice, Organic Lavender Distillate, Organic Roman Chamomile Distillate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Castor Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Hydrolized Wheat Protein, Pro Vitamin B5, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Organic Rosehip Seed Oil, Organic Black Willow Bark Extract

Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo Review

Tropic Isle’s Black Castor Oil Shampoo has actually exceeded my expectations. Generally, I opt for sulfate-free shampoos. To my delight, the Black Castor Oil shampoo satisfied such condition. With its ingredients list boasting notes of rosemary, lavender, and aloe vera, I knew that I would have some sort of favorable results.

Benefits:

Gently cleanses, non-stripping

Lathers Instantly

Moisturizing

All Natural (no alcohols, sulfates, etc.)

Thoroughly Cleanses (my scalp is squeaky clean)

Light Lemon/Lavender Scent to balance out Castor Oil Scent

The only issue that I have is that the label includes shea butter as an active ingredient; however, in the ingredients list on my bottle, there is no shea butter listed. It could possibly be an oversight or misprint though. I still like the results of the shampoo. It did its job and I will definitely be using it faithfully as a part of my hair regimen!

Ingredients: Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Essentials of Pimento, Lavender, and Lemon, Aloe Vera and Rosemary Extracts, Organic Saponified Oils of Coconut, Olive, and Jojoba, Vegetable Gum/Glycerin Extract

Creme of Nature Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment Review

As I’m certain that I have mentioned several times before, CON is one of my favorite lines! I’ve always been pleased with how CON products make my hair feel and easier to manage; which is why when I first heard of the new line with Moroccan oil on BlackHairPlanet, I got super excited! I went out and cleaned off the shelves at my local BSS which only had about 12 packs, as I was shipping some off to my friend and BHP hair buddy in London, who was just as excited as I was!

The conditioning treatment comes in a very pretty bold red pack with gold lettering. I was like a kid ripping open a Christmas present! And ohhh, the smell, so delightful! The consistency is rather thick and rich. I was digging it from the moment I opened it! So, first I washed my hair with CON conditioning shampoo. As directed, I applied the conditioner and placed a plastic cap over my hair and sat under a warm hooded dryer for about 15 minutes. I used a little over half a pack, as it instructed to apply a generous amount. As I was rinsing it out, my hair actually felt like silk! It almost melted my hair like butter! As a matter of fact, I found myself rinsing a few extra times, as it was so silky that I thought it was product residue making my hair feel slick. The end results can be described as more than satisfactory!
Ultimately I ended with a soft and shiny roller set!

The product claims:
*Strengthens, imparts moisture and prevents hair breakage.–definitely imparts moisture!
* For radiant shine–my hair was shinier than it was pre-treatment
* Nourishment and protection–Requires more of a prolonged use for evidence, I can’t say that my hair felt exceptionally stronger after one use

This conditioner did not weigh my hair down, Thank God! And one thing that the label forgot to mention is that it aids in detangling, as I’ve always found to be true with CON products!

So far, so good! I plan to continue to use these packs for the next several weeks to determine whether or not this product actually strengthens my hair over a prolonged usage. I certainly have high hopes for this CON Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment long-term. I also plan to purchase other products from the Creme of Nature Argan Collection. Stay tuned for more reviews of the new line!

Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel Review

All that I can say is that I am so pleased that I’ve found this product! I’ve blogged about all of my unfortunate and unpleasant experiences with gels in the past. This review will be nothing similar to those. I have finally found a product that has fantastic hold, while maintaining softness!
The claims of this product:
* Contains 100% pure olive oil
* No flaking, no tack and anti-itch
* For use on any color hair
* Alcohol-free

What they say is true! There’s no flaking, or drying. Since this gel contains no alcohol, it really does keep the hair from drying.

I’ve used this product when putting my daughter’s hair in a ponytail or bun. In the past, when I’d brush her hair back with lotions or other gels, she would come home from school and the edges would be totally frizzy. I couldn’t wait to see what her hair would look like when she returned from school after using this gel, especially after reading all of the favorable reviews on BlackHairPlanet Forum. Well, she and I were both pleasantly surprised and relieved that her hair was still, soft, shiny and in place. What a God send the Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel has been for my daughter’s natural tresses!

Urban Decay Primer Potion Review

When it comes to eyeshadows, there’s a world of possibilities! No matter which shade or brand you’re wearing or shopping for, you may discover that applying and wearing shadow correctly is more than a notion. With creasing being one of the major complaints of eyeshadow wearers, the next in line would be the lack of staying power. After finding myself dealing with the same issues, I’d almost given up on shadows, that is until I was hipped to the Urban Decay Primer Potion. It comes in this cute little gold “genie like” container that is perfect for it’s fancy name! Inside is an adorable little magic wand. The one that I’ll be reviewing is Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin-Champagne Shimmer.
When I tried it on at the Sephora counter, I was pleasantly surprised at how cute it looked on my bare lids with no shadow. Next, was the determining factor, trying it with shadow! I used a cheapie eyeshadow to see if this stuff really worked…It looked fabulous! This primer really brings out a vibrant hue in any shadow. It applies so smooth and easy! As far as staying power, my shadow stays on for longer than it did on the naked lid. My shadow stayed on for about six hours, which is not half bad, considering that it used to wipe off when I so much as sneezed! I was also amazed at how it kept the shadow from creasing.
One very important thing to keep in mind is: less is more here! I wouldn’t suggest using the wand to apply it. I actually just take the wand to dab a little bit on my finger and rub it across my lids. If you put too much, it will show in the light and it will give the effect that you didn’t blend well. Also, be sure to allow it to dry before applying your shadow.
This primer has taken my makeup game to a new level. I don’t know how I’ve been able to get along without it!

KeraCare Humecto Creme Conditioner for Detangling Review

I have always loved me some KeraCare! I guess I started using KeraCare around five years ago. I was so pleased with the way that it made my and my daughter’s hair feel and smell. Somehow I had decided to experiment around with other conditioners, and KeraCare took sort of a backseat for me. Well, can I say- BIG MISTAKE? I found myself running back to my first love after playing around with others that paled in comparison. With all of it’s wonderful properties; the great smell, the rich consistency, the way it adds body and shine; the most impressive is how superbly it detangles! I can truly say that this product is ideal for both relaxed and natural hair, but especially natural hair. The task of detangling and managing my daughter’s strands became incredibly easier!

The best way to use the KeraCare Humecto Creme Conditioner for detangling is to allow it to sit on the hair for 15-20 minutes as directed, and then use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to pull apart those tangles until you are tangle free! After you rinse it out completely, comb through with the wide tooth comb, and be amazed at how manageable your hair is! I know that I was! We went from tears to smiles when on wash day!

Some other great benefits of KeraCare Humecto Creme Conditioner:

Protects hair from drying effects of heat.
Has a great smell
Gives the hair body and shine
Moisturizes the hair
Prevents breakage and damage

When I first started buying this product it was sold in a 5lb tub. Now the formula can be found in an eight ouce bottle…the consistency is not as thick, as it’s predecessor, however it does have the same detangling effects.

KeraCare is awesome, and all I can hope for is that they don’t reformulate again or try and fix what’s not broken. Avalon, please don’t mess up a good thing!
