BaByliss Pro Thermal Ionic Hard Hat dryer Review

By Dena On November 15, 2009 No Comments

thermal babyliss proAfter the tiresome attempts to prop up my hooded dryer with telephone books, then still finding myself sitting on two and three pillows, I was fed up with the hooded dryers and all of the inconvenience associated with them. After my hooded dryer finally died, I was faced with the dilemma of either investing in a soft bonnet dryer or spending the extra bucks on a hooded dryer on a stand, which would certainly  be a solution!

Fortunately my dear husband surprised me with a Babyliss Pro Thermal one Saturday morning after constantly hearing  my gripes about having to go to the salon every weekend. My review of the Babyliss Pro is as follows:

Pros:

  • It has three settings.  ( I prefer the medium setting)
  • It has the ION setting, which fights frizz and locks in moisture.
  • The stand is durable and can be easily adjusted.
  • It dries the hair evenly.
  • Dries my hair in about an hour.
  • Considerably more quiet than my previous dryer.
  • Rolling wheels make it easy to transport.
  • The cover attaches nicely to the top of the bonnet and sets the dryer to off when pulled up.

Cons:

  • The attachment to hold the chord in place doesn’t work.
  • The highest setting is far too hot.
  • Although, more quiet than the dinosaur that I had, it is still not as quiet as I’d hoped.

Well, as you can see, the pros outweigh the cons. I would definitely say that this baby was worth the hundred bucks and change that my husband invested in it.

Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam Conditioning Styling Foam Review

By Dena On November 8, 2009 No Comments

FSSculptingFoamProductThis product was suggested to me for my son’s naturally curly hair by the stylist at Super Cuts. After she gave him his first haircut, she empathized with me about controlling frizz with his curly locks. She too, had sons with curly hair, and had tried it all.  On the verge of cutting his fro completely off after several attempts at finding products to keep his appearance looking well kempt and attractive, I was relieved when she said she had just the right product for his hairtype. So with that being said, I wasn’t at all reluctant to pay the hefty  $8.95 for the styling foam, after seeing how his hair melted down after she applied some.  This product actually helps to not only define his curls, but to minimize the frizzies. Only a dime sized amount is needed. Both of my sons hair likes this stuff! And the smell….a light coconutty scent that is not too overpowering for males. I am pleasantly surprised that Paul Mitchell has created something that can work on my sons’  sometimes rather difficult hair types.   I suggest this product for people with naturally curly hair that desire something to define their curls. Interestingly enough, this styling foam also has conditioner…two in one! Awesome!

Soft Sheen Carson Optimum Care Anti Breakage Therapy Leave in Ultimate Strengthener Review

By Dena On November 8, 2009 No Comments

leave in ultimate strengthenerThe first time that I used the Optimum Care Leave in, I was pretty impressed with the final results of my hair. I had just gotten a relaxer, and usually my hair is  a little limp because it’s so straight. However, this time, I had sprayed it on my hair before my rollerset. When I took my rollers out and combed the curls out, my hair was so full of body and bounce! Not only was my hair extra fluffy, it also had a nice sheen to it. Now, one thing thing that I believe defines a good leave-in spray is how it actually strengthens the hair. In the past, when my hair was apparently damaged, the slightest tug of a hair strand would result in snap offs. I can honestly say that after a few weeks of use, my hair actually regained strength and vitality. I can say that this product passed my test! Another thing that I like is that the spray is light weight and doesn’t create a residue. I would recommend this product to a friend without a second thought.

The only con to this product is that it does NOT have detangling properties. I still have to work on tangles with this product.

Excelsior Millennia Mud Reconstructor review

By evanny On November 6, 2009 No Comments

They say:

  • Thickens hair
  • Won’t weigh hair down
  • Reconstructs bonds for healthy hair

excelsior mud Do get mud in your hair! Your hair will thrive on the minerals from the earth found in Millennia Mud Intensive Hair Reconstructor. No dryer time needed. This product infuses hair with essential bio-active minerals extracted from volcanic residue and blended with beneficial oils to create balanced moisture, internal strength.

I say:

I used this reconstructor because #1 I’m running out of my Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor and #2, for those of you who know me, I have a PJ habit that’s not breaking anytime soon. I really wanted to try out something new. Well let me tell you, I applied this to my hair after pre-pooing and shampooing my hair and my oh my is this a good reconstructor! It not only strengthened my hair, but it made it feel incredibly moisturized! I mean, I’m not used to having an experience like that with reconstructors. Reconstructors usually focus on rebuilding the lost protein in the hair and that’s it. After I used Millennia Mud I didn’t feel the need to DC. That’s unheard of! I would most certainly recommend this reconstructor. I’m giving it 5 out of 5 stars.

Simply Growth Hair Vitamin Review

By BhpPress On October 19, 2009 No Comments

Here is a review submitted for blackhairplanet.com by Latrell actual customer.

My name is latrell im from south carolina i have used all sorts of hair
vitamins like afro 360 excotic allure to hair infinity. You name it I have used
it. I have just started using Simply growth about a couple days ago and I have
already seen new hair coming in all ready and i have never experienced that with
any of the other hair vitamin i was amazed by it.

I was skeptical about them because I have used so many before and none of them have done with simply growth  did with the other it took 2 -3 months with Hair infinity I never saw results it was really slow to come in excotic allure the same and afro 360 it took a while. I thought i was going to be really disappoint again with Simply growth i’m not  going to lie. But I’m not i have new growth already like I said I have been using it two days and I already see growth. Like I said with the
other products I didnt see results it took a couple of months but i already see
it with Simply growth.

Pantene Relaxed and Natural Conditioner Intensive Moisturizing Review

By Dena On October 9, 2009 No Comments

pantene relaxed and naturalThe first thing that I wondered about this product was “How on earth can they try and push off a product to ethnic people that caters to both relaxed and natural hair?” I know that the two have unique needs which require special ingredients. But I figured, don’t knock it until I try it as Pantene is a pretty reputable name out there.

Well, I decided to give it a try on my daughter’s natural hair which is growing out of a texlaxer.  I decided to use the conditioner only first in conjunction with my CON conditioning shampoo. The first pleasantry about the product was the smell. My daughter is very sensitive to smells, and surprisingly, she was complimentary of the scent! Next, I found the rich creamy texture to be a nice consistency! I applied a generous amount to my daughter’s tresses and as instructed, I allowed it to sit for about five minutes as I fingered through her locks. After rinsing her hair, I was rather pleased with the detangling effect it had on her hair. Her hair was also noticeably softer!

When styling her hair,I found it to be somewhat easier to comb through. I have to give some of the credit, however, to my beloved CON! But the Pantene did have its part in the results I might add!

I have to add that the online reviews that I have explored had left me with some mixed views about this product  prior to use. I was very uneasy after reading that after prolonged usage, many women noticed breakage or thinning. With that in mind, I will use this product sparingly. No room for mistakes in my daughter’s and my hair journey!

So, the next time that I wash my own hair, I will review this product from a relaxed perspective. Stay tuned!

Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner Review

By Amina On September 30, 2009 No Comments

AOHSR

Now everyone knows how much of a natural product PJ (product junkie) I am, and after hearing all of the hype about Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose, I was forced to try the conditioner and review it.  I must admit, after evaluating the results, I am ’sold’.

Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner claims to correct “dry, brittle hair.”  The product contains an extremely moisturizing formula which seems to back up its claims as far as adding plenty of moisture.  While my natural hair was not super dry and brittle (I moisturize and seal often to prevent such consequences), it was in need of a weekly deep moisture treatment.  I would say that the Honeysuckle Rose did it’s duty where my needs were concerned.  The conditioner may be used on all hair types; I have extremely coarse 4b hair, and it works for me.

I must note: the first time I used the conditioner sans heat, while the second time I applied it and sat under a hooded dryer.  The best results came from my using the conditioner with heat; as I have noticed that my hair responds better to a deep treatment that utilizes an indirect heat or steam source (while these were my findings, the next person’s hair may respond better to the conditioner without heat…in essence – get to know your hair ladies!).

Positives:

  • Thick, Creamy Consistency
  • Softens Hair
  • Very Moisturizing
  • Natural Formula
  • Vegan
  • Smells Nice
  • Doesn’t Weigh the Hair Down

Negatives:

  • If not completely and properly washed out, it may cause crunchy curls/hair
  • $8.50 for an 11oz bottle may be a bit pricey for those on a budget

I would say, I will use this conditioner when I need a high moisture kick, however, it will not totally replace my Nature’s Gate L & A (which happens to be cheaper with amazing results).  The Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose definitely gets thumbs up from me though!

Ingredients:

Coconut Fatty Acid Cream Base, Organic Aloe Vera, Organic Shea Butter, Wheat Germ Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Rosa Mosqueta® Rose Hip Seed Oil; Extracts of Fennel, Hops, Balm Mint, Mistletoe, Camomile, Yarrow, Chrysanthemum, Angelica, Forsythia and Magnolia; Honeysuckle Oil, Carrot Oil, Aubrey’s Preservative (Citrus Seed Extract, Vitamins A, C and E).

Fresh Radiant Skin -Brown Sugar Scrub and Shower Gel Review

By BhpPress On September 28, 2009 No Comments

I use Blended Naturals daily because the products are so gentle to sensitive skin.  Also, I struggle with dry skin on various parts of my body and oily skin on my face.  The face products help reduce the oilyness in my skin witout drying it out.  There are two products in particular that I really enjoy using:

1showergelOrganic Shower Gel – This shower gel does wonders for the skin. Without leaving an oily residue, the skin is left feeling soft and supple.  The organic oils and gently cleanse the skin with a low suds (no sodium laurel sulfate) which is great for me because I have sensitive skin which is typically very reactive to many skin care brands on the market.  I really like the fact that the product is scented with essential oils vs fragrance oils.  You don’t know what is in your products when they contain fragrance oils because these are synthetic ingredients.

Organic Shower Gel Ingredients:

- Natural Unscented
- Lemon Essential Oil
- Lavender Essential Oil
- Relaxation Essential Oil
- Sweet Orange Essential Oil
- Bergamot/Grapefruit Essential Oil Blend
- Mint Thyme Essential Oil Blend
- Honey Almond Essential Oil Blend
- Lemon Sage/Ginger Essential Oil Blend
- Madagascar Vanilla & Ylang Ylang Essential Oil Blend

BrownSugarScrub_sampleBrown Sugar Scrub/Mask – This product is so wonderful for a number of reasons.  1- it is a combination product so I don’t have to buy a facial scrub to exfoliate and then a mask to reduce my pores.  The product leaves my skin tone and even and very soft afterwards. On the days that I use this scrub/mask, the oil production in my face is greatly reduced.

Difference Between Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Castor Oil

By BhpPress On September 28, 2009 No Comments

The Difference Between Tropic Isle Living

Jamaican Black and other Castor Oil

Jamacian Castor OilMade the Traditional Hand-Processed Way: The castor oil plant originated in Ethiopia and later spread throughout the rest of Africa. It’s believed that it was the ancient Egyptians that first started to make black castor oil. They roasted the beans then through a tedious hand processed method the ultra pure light brown to dark brown oil is extracted (black castor oil). The seeds and method of making black castor oil eventually reached Jamaica via African slaves whose descendants today still make and use it as their ancestors. Tropic Isle Living is proud to continue the tradition.

  • Tropic Isle Living Black Castor Oil is made From Organic Seeds

  • No chemicals used in the processing of our oil and there are no preservatives. It is pure 100% organic while other Castor Oil have additional additives

  • The small amount of ash found in our black castor oil enhances its effectiveness as a hair and skin tonic.
  • Tropic Isle Jamaican Black castor Oil comes in amber glass bottles to preserve its quality. Oils tend to lose their freshness and potency when they are exposed to direct light as a result of being in clear bottles. They also risk being contaminated by toxins if placed in regular plastic bottles. We use PET amber colored plastic bottles for our other products. These bottles do not have the contaminants found in regular plastic that causes health problems.

Nexxus Phyto Organics Humectin Conditioner Review

By evanny On September 23, 2009 No Comments

PHYTOORGANICt po_humectinThey say: HUMECTIN Extreme Moisture Conditioner helps restore and maintain moisture balance, with a blend of Vitamins,
Minerals, Manuka Honey and Coconut Milk. Ultra hydrating emollients provide manageability, elasticity and shine. With aromatherapy essences of Sandalwood and Lime.

I say: I LOVE THIS CONDITIONER!!!! It extremely moisturizing!! I bought this conditioner because it was coming up on relaxer day and I read that you should use a chelating shampoo on your hair if you use no lye relaxers. Since I do, I headed to JC Penney to find a good chelating shampoo. Nexxus has been pretty good with my hair so I looked for a Nexxus chelating shampoo. I actually found the Nexxus Kelate shampoo together in a package with this conditioner, the Nexxus Phyto Organics Humectin. So I figured, okay I’ll just get the package. It’s only $12 and I get 2 products. I could always use a new conditioner. So I used this conditioner on that relaxer day and haven’t stopped using it since. This conditioner moisturizes the hair like no other! My hair is moisturized for days after I use this conditioner. It’s loaded with yummy ingredients like coconut fruit juice, honey, manuka, castor oil, and vitamin E, and vitamin B-5. It also contains some proteins: hydrolyzed quinoa and wheat protein. They’re low on the list so my hair never feels hard. They are also known for aiding the hair to retain moisture. This conditioner contains ceramides and it has UVA and UVB ray protectors. Form those who aren’t familiar with ceramides, ceramides are natural lipids (fats) and a major component of skin structure. These fats allow skin and hair to retain moisture. Some conditioners use them b/c they can also strengthen the hair quite well, while adding much needed moisture to the hair. This conditioner even has the choice to use it as a leave in, just follow the directions on the bottle. I can say this, after I rinse my hair and do the strand test my hair is perfectly balanced and the smell is awesome!! This product gets 5/5 stars from me. It is my go to deep conditioner and a definite staple for life!
