Blow Drying Natural Hair
Naturals must take great precautions to avoid the damages that heat produce. There are many naturals out there that do not think of the detrimental effects that happen when blow drying hair. I will be the first to admit, I was not aware of the harms involved with blow drying my hair; as I was heat styling my hair upwards of one to two times weekly at one point. Thank God that I found an informational hair forum and started educating myself. I have since decreased the frequency of blow drying and overall heat styling my hair; my hair has thrived because of it. For those times that I do heat style, I keep the following facts in mind.
Detrimental Effects of Blow Drying (quick list):
- Breakage
- Split Ends
- Dryness
- Raised Cuticle of Hair
- Potential Loss of Curl Pattern over time
Tips For Blow Drying:
- Use a heat protectant (Refer to: Save Your Strands with Heat Protection)
- Utilize a Lower Heat Setting
- Do not Concentrate on the Ends
- Detangle the Hair Prior to blow Drying
- Section the Hair First
- Blow Dry Only After it’s about 85% dry
- Use an ionic blow dryer
