An Interview with LadyDee: Natural Hair Journey…


 

Check out BHP’s own LadyDee, Danielle. She has wowed us with her natural locks since the start of her natural hair care journey.  She offers some unique tips and a tried and true hair care regimen.

Danielle and her natural locks sure are groovy!

 

What is your name and where are you from?

My name Is Danielle and I’m from Texas
How long have you been natural?
23 Months
What made you decide to go natural?
I went natural because I wanted to love my hair the way that God made it. I had relaxer’s most of my life and I didn’t know what my natural hair looked like.
What’s your hair type?
4a/4b
What are your favorite/staple products?
I love a lot of Shea Moisture Products, but my favorite one Is Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. It keeps my hair moisturized like crazy, plus It’s all natural! Other products I love are Eco Styler Gel, Aloe Vera Gel/Juice, Vegetable Glycerin, Coconut Oil, Castor Oil and Jojoba Oil.
What is your regime?
1) I shampoo my hair 1x a week (I co wash at least 1x a week and I clarify my hair 1x a month)
2) I Deep Condition 1x a week
3) Apply my leave In Conditioner
4) I Moisturize 2x a day (Morning & night)
5) Then I seal In the moisture with an oil
*I do protein treatments when I feel I need one

Whats your favorite style?
I love to wear a puff, Its my go to style because Its a easy and fast hairstyle to do. I try not to wear one all the time because It can lead to breakage.
Do you have to deal with any negativity about being natural? If so, how?
Not really but sometimes I do get the side eye from people, especially when I wear my hair In a fro!
Did you transition or BC?
I transitioned for 7 months and BC’ed on May 9th 2010.
To you what’s the best part about being natural?
The best part about being natural Is the versatility. There are endless style options. You can color your hair, wear a Afro, Twist Outs, Braid Outs, Bantu Knot Outs, A Puff…Etc.
What are some of the positive things that people say about your hair or your decision?
I have been told that my hair Is very soft, beautiful and pretty a lot.
What advice would you like to impart to new naturals or transitioners?
Make sure your hair Is moisturized at all times. Find the right products that work for your hair. What works for someone else’s hair may not work for your hair. 

So, there you have it! Danielle is definitely a natural to envy. Paying attention to her natural locks, and giving them the best care possible are the keys to her success, as with anyone who does the same. She certainly does make natural look like a breeze!
