What to do After the Big Chop?

What to do After the Big Chop?

big chopThe Big Chop is something that can be exhilarating and empowering at that moment.  One can look in the mirror and notice and smile at the fact that all of the stringy relaxed ends are no more; but after the self-emancipation, what is next???  One may experience frustration and confusion at the fact that this new head of hair is totally different from the strands that previously occupied it.  You may wonder: How do I care for hair that is a whole new texture?  How do I style hair that lacks the length that I am used to?  What do I do after the Big Chop?

Do not get frustrated; instead, enjoy your new hair and get acquainted with it.  Build a simple regimen for your hair.  Learn what your hair appreciates and what your hair despises.  Experiment with products that others with your similar hair type have had successes with, but do so in a slow, steady rotation where you can track your results one or two products at a time.  Avoid product overload and the classic case of “PJism” that comes with the anxiousness of wanting instant growth.

Learn ways to create styles that fit your face and compliment your best features.  Experiment with roller sets, bantu knots, wash and go’s, cornrows, and even wigs if you’d like.  Be confident with whatever style that you choose and the beauty of your new found kinks and curls will shine through!
