African Americans Considering Braids

black girl with braidsAfrican Americans are responsible for the introduction of braids into the current culture. Braids have become a very popular hair style.  When you turn on the t.v. you can see an array of braided styles on celebrities.  It is like wearing a piece of art, as the ability to braid hair really is an art form. Your braids can be as creative as you like. You can add accessories to spice it up. They can have special designs in them or even the addition of beads and jewels. Braids are not only for ladies with long hair any more, as the past may have dictated. Extensions can be added to hair of any length to achieve the braided look you want. You can wear them whether you have long hair or short hair . This also allows men to wear braids just as much as women and children. Men have become the newest group to embrace this trend. Braiding is a very long process, which lends to it being very expensive. The overall expense of the braids will depend upon the length of the hair, the style of braid and the time needed to complete the braids.

There are a number of different types of braids for the hair.  If you have decided to have your hair braided there will be numerous styles and designs to choose from. The possiblities are absolutely  endless. For younger children,  more simple braids are appropriate. While there are many styles to choose from some are more difficult to complete than others. Micro braids, for instance, are tiny braids that take skill and time. Micros are also very stressful on the hair. The hair has to be pulled so tightly around the edges which could lead to breakage. Other styles include short braids and thick braids.

Short braids are more appropriate for men. Few men adapt to the longer braids. Ladies have the choice of creating an elegant look with their braids or a more casual look. Beads and jewelry can even be added to add a uniqueness to the style. You can wear your hair in braids and design them like a piece of art work… your creation proudly. Maintenance of the braids is very simple. You can wash your hair normally and just add oil to moisturize the scalp. Braid spray is popular for people wit h this style. It adds moisture and a pleasant fragrance. No worries about taking them out either. When you want to change your look, you can take them out easily without any cutting required, unless of course you decided to go with extensions. Often the stylist will take out the old braids and wash the hair before setting up to braid the hair again. Be sure to thoroughly condition before starting over.

If you have visited your hair dresser and still can not decide on a braid that is right for you, you may want to go online and view some hair galleries. There are web pages that allows you to upload your picture and then try on different hair styles until you find the one that works best to you. These pictures can also go along with you to the hair dressers for references. Most stylists are open to using pictures to guide in his/her performance. Braids are a great way to show your individual personality and provide a portrait of who you are as an individual.

Finding the perfect braid style before heading off to the salon is the best way to ensure you have the end result you are looking for. It is not recommeded to go in blindfolded and hope for the best. A little research on the front end will make for a pleasurable experience and stylish creation. Braid choice will depend on many factors.  The use of a professional informed stylist for advice will help with choices based on facial structure and overall hair length. Do your research on a stylist too. Ask around to ensure that you choose an experienced person with a good track record.
